Our faecal incontinence range includes products to suit a broad range of conditions, from light incontinence such as faecal smearing, through to heavy, including very loose stools. The range comprises large shaped pads, all-in-ones and pull-ups. Selection should depend on the rate of incontinence, the absorbency required, and the mobility of the user.
We recommend pull-ups and all-in-ones for moderate to severe faecal incontinence, because they offer more security than a pad, and higher levels of absorbency if the stools are very loose, or if there is also heavy urinary incontinence.
For a lighter problem, such as faecal smearing, large shaped pads may be adequate, and if there is also urinary incontinence, they are available in different absorbencies. They tend to be more discreet than pull-ups or all-in-ones. It is also worth considering that if the problem requires frequent changing, pads can work out significantly cheaper than the other options.
If you are a carer, if your patient has learning difficulties or mobility problems, or is in a state of confusion, you might find all-in-ones more practical than pull-ups, which have to be pulled on like normal underwear. Some all-in-ones also feature a wetness indicator for extra security and as an aid to carers, and also odour control layers.
